Position Title: Parks Maintenance Technician - Seasonal Job Description: Responsible for the overall general ground's maintenance of city owned grounds, parks and recreation facilities. Perform landscaping, mowing, fertilizing and ground's maintenance. About the Position: The Parks Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general upkeep and landscaping of city-owned spaces. Responsibilities include mowing, weeding, fertilizing, landscaping, and debris removal to ensure clean and well-maintained public spaces. This position operates and maintains various landscaping equipment, assists with irrigation system adjustments, and supports park improvement projects such as planting trees and flowers. Additional responsibilities include preparing recreational areas for public use and collaborating with city staff to ensure safe and welcoming community spaces. This is a seasonal position, not to exceed 6 months of employment. About the team: The Public Services Facilities Division is an internal service that provides maintenance and repairs to City buildings such as City Hall, the Sorenson Unity Center, Smith’s Ballpark, and fire stations. This division is also responsible for the security and maintenance of the downtown and Sugar House business districts. Applicants for roles within the Facilities Division can expect to directly provide or support the skilled trades and maintenance to the City’s facilities to keep this important infrastructure running smoothly for its occupants. Key Responsibilites Performs a variety of duties required to main­tain City-owned grounds, parks, trails, cemeteries, open spaces, and recreation facilities, including mowing, aerating, and weeding turf; cleaning restrooms; picking up trash; raking leaves; clearing sidewalks; and removing debris. Assists with park-related projects such as laying sod, re-seeding, and planting of flowers and trees and inspecting and adjusting sprinkler systems. Operates various types of handheld and light mechanical equipment including mowers, sweepers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment. May operate heavy landscaping equipment (not requiring a Commercial Drivers License). Operates various types of vehicles, equipment and irrigation systems necessary to successfully complete assigned tasks. Responsible for the preventive maintenance, minor repairs and adjustment of equipment to ensure the proper operation and safe efficient use. Assist in the proper mixing and application of fertilizers, herbicides and other chemicals used in the care and maintenance of turf and landscaped areas. Assist in the preparation of ball fields, parks and picnic areas when areas are specifically reserved by the public. Inspects and cleans areas where unauthorized camping has occurred to make presentable for all to use. May work with County Health Department and other City staff to clear areas occupied by person’s experiencing homelessness. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to get to various Parks and Public Lands facility. May require personal and city vehicle with a valid driver’s license or driving privilege card. Must be at least 16 years of age. Desired Qualifications: Experience in maintenance and landscaping. Experience working for a city municipal park. Experience operating light or heavy-duty equipment Working Conditions: Moderately heavy physical activity required to push, pull or lift medium weights up to 50lbs and on occasion up to 80lbs. Required to stand, walk or sit uncomfortably for extended periods. Exposure to weather extremes, noise, dust, fumes, etc. are routine.
