Under the general direction of the Research Data Manager (RDM) of the Data, Research, and Planning Office (DRPO), the Research Data Specialist II (RDS II) provides data and research support required by Assembly Bill 393 (Rivas, 2023). This bill focuses on supporting dual language learners (DLLs) in child care programs. The RDS II will be responsible for developing procedures for identifying and reporting DLL data, assisting in the coordination of implementing these procedures, data collection and analysis, and preparation of required reporting for Departmental Executive staff and Legislature.

Effective July 1, 2025, CDSS is making every effort to comply with the Governor’s Mandate to Return to Office 4 days per week. Implementation will depend on various considerations, but all incoming staff should expect, for positions posted in Sacramento, that they may be required to be on-site.
This position is eligible for hybrid work in accordance with the Governor’s and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time. The incumbent will be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies. Headquarter location may be designated on the selected candidate's primary residence location, and/or the closest CDSS location in accordance with operational need and available space. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
