WATER RESOURCES Design SPECIALIST

Baton Rouge, LA

Reports to: Business Unit Leader

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Travel: 10%

Purpose

The Water Resources Design Specialist is responsible for supporting and assisting Project Managers as well as Design Professionals with the technical hydrologic and/or hydraulic aspects of commercial, industrial, municipal, and various other design projects. The Design Specialist is expected to work with the team members to provide the client with the highest quality of services. The Design Specialist shall assist in project development from conceptual planning, preliminary design to development of construction plans to jurisdictional permitting to completion of construction activities focused on the technical aspects of a project. Tasks involving data collection, data synopsis, modeling, and reporting for hydrologic restoration, stormwater improvement projects, master plans, and flood studies are fundamental characteristics for this position.

Activities & Responsibilities

  • Promote DDG's core values, both internally and externally, and comply with the DDG Company Manual.
  • Work with APMs, PMs, and SPMs on a daily basis to achieve project objectives.
  • Achieve task objectives by working closely with GIS / CAD Operators and other Design Professionals on a daily basis.
  • Provide technical expertise and assist in project tasks including but not limited to:
  • Collect and process data adhering to the organization’s database system.
  • Review and extract information from surveys, geotechnical, environmental, and biological reports.
  • Produce graphics, GIS statistics, and multimedia demonstrations of model results.
  • Assist with reports and technical memos.
  • Adhere to project objectives, timelines, budgets, and standards under the guidance of APMs, PMs, and SPMs and Water Resources Lead.
  • Responsible for timely communication of project issues for swift resolution.
  • Minimal communication with representatives for current and potential clients.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of civil and environmental engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Basic knowledge in fluids, hydrology, groundwater, and modeling concepts.
  • Hydrologic/hydraulic modeling using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HydraFlow, and/or other similar models.
  • ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Matlab and/or other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
  • Sound background in probability and statistics.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office.
  • Entry level in Python, VBScript or other coding languages preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering Environmental Engineering or other Water Engineering field required. MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering a plus.
  • 0 to 3 years’ experience in engineering field.
  • Path underway to Professional Licensure.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
